A graduate of Bishop's University, Bob obtained an honours B.Sc. degree in chemistry and then moved to Vancouver to obtain a Ph.D. in physical organic chemistry at the University of British Columbia (UBC). It was while at UBC that he discovered the joy of teaching and was awarded a Graduate TA Teaching Award three years in a row. After graduation he spent 6 years teaching at Memorial University's Sir Wilfred Grenfell College in Corner Brook Newfoundland before returning to Vancouver to teach at both UBC and Kwantlen University College. He retired to Port Alberni on Vancouver Island in 2008 after 31 years teaching chemistry. He has been an active presenter at many university/college/high school professional development workshops and published a wide range of papers in the area of chemical education.

He is looking forward to his time at Quest and sharing his love of organic chemistry and the thinking/problem-solving skills that it fosters. It will be his 46th time through the course material, in classes ranging in size from 15 at Grenfell College, 35 at Kwantlen and 175 at UBC.
