Originally from Cap-de-la-Madeleine, Québec, Luce comes to Quest with over 25 years experience as a French immersion specialist. Upon completion of her B.Ed. at l'Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières, Luce taught in a variety of educational settings, including Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. After studying in the M.A. program in Teaching French as a Second Language at McGill University, Luce opened her own French language school for adults in New Orleans, the French Language Academy. Luce's unique creative style of teaching, combining art, language, personal expression and collaborative learning, soon made it the premier school for French language studies in the city.
Luce has studied advanced language pedagogy at l'Université de Toulon-Var in Provence and has lived and traveled extensively in France, other European countries, Latin America, and the Caribbean. Her broad travel experience has helped her blend language instruction with an appreciation of cultural contexts in which the language is spoken. A seasoned tour organizer and study planner, she also offers guidance to students interested in furthering their studies abroad. Luce optimizes the communicative competence of students by helping them gain insight into their learning styles and overcoming blocks. She guides them to become active participants in their learning so that they can become more effective learners.
Luce has also founded Language at Heart, an educational consulting firm helping language teachers better address the needs of their adult clientele, rethink their curriculum, and learn to integrate art into their teaching.
In her spare time, Luce operates a bed and breakfast on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, volunteers with the hospice society, gardens avidly, enjoys painting and mixed media, sings in a local choir, and ventures often into the woods with her husband, Eric, and their little bichon frisé, Viva.
