Visiting Tutor for "Neuroscience" Julie completed her undergraduate studies in microbiology and immunology at Université de Montréal. She developed a deep interest in the brain after completing her honors thesis in a neuropharmacology lab in which she learned how to record electrical signals from brain cells. Julie moved to Vancouver to complete her Ph.D. in neuroscience at the University of British Columbia. For her thesis, she used electrophysiology and imaging techniques to study how aging impacts a cellular model for learning and memory. Wanting to examine the social impact of neuroscience research, she followed-up with a postdoctoral fellowship at the National Core for Neuroethics at UBC. Julie's current research looks at the effectiveness of communications about neuroscience. Julie is passionate about science outreach and has been involved with several organizations promoting science education such as the Let's Talk Science Partnership, Science 101, UBC's Tri-Mentoring program and the Telus World of Science. Julie is an avid cyclist and after many years of road riding, she has now started to work on her trail riding skills. Her second favorite mode of transportation is sailing. |
