Quest Kermode Athletics Mission Statement

Quest University Canada is committed to providing an athletics program that promotes the intellectual and athletic growth of student-athletes in an environment where excellence in both sport and academics can be achieved.

Competitive athletics can form an important part of complete student development. Participation in competitive athletics facilitates personal growth and promotes healthy lifestyle habits, as well as enabling each student-athlete to develop individual responsibility, integrity, reliability, self-sacrifice, leadership, teamwork, and community awareness. Life skills developed and utilized for athletic success are transferable to academic, social, and career success. Finally, the universal appeal of sport around the world provides the opportunity for athletes to develop an international perspective, to act as ambassadors to other cultures, and to grow as responsible global citizens.

The unique and personalized educational experience of Quest's Bachelor of Arts and Science program shall remain of the highest priority for all athletes. Athletes are recruited and admitted on the same basis, and adhere to the same criteria, as are all Quest students. Scholarship and financial aid policies are also identical, as is the program of study required of every student in the first two "Foundation" years. All students choose a Question in their second year which defines the latter two years of their degree program. No distinctions or exceptions are made for any student-athlete at Quest.

Quest recruits student-athletes who are equally committed to achieving academic and athletic success. Intercollegiate, club, and intramural teams at Quest are all designed to create positive learning and training environments in which the ideals of team work, commitment, integrity, leadership, and fair play are exhibited, applied, and instilled. The institution provides, and continues to develop, comprehensive training programs that will enable its athletes to reach their full athletic potential. Support for the professional development of our coaches allows them to grow and learn as educators and role models, and to act as ambassadors for our athletics program.

It is well established that leaders from many realms of human endeavor often had significant involvement in sports and recreation in their formative years. Competitive sport encourages not only the mastery of skills, but fosters team work, promotes achievement, develops leadership skills, rewards commitment, and abets personal growth. Consequently, an important part of life at Quest University Canada is a focus on healthy living as exemplified by participation in athletics and recreation.

At most universities, the recreation complex and playing fields are used exclusively for traditional athletic activities. At Quest we are challenging this model by promoting integrated community recreation and outdoor pursuits as part of the foundation of our experiential and balanced approach to learning. From outdoor leadership activities in the Cornerstone course which inaugurates each student's academic career at Quest, to Community Days, residence hall floor challenges, and a variety of other community building activities, athletics and recreation are integrated into our holistic approach designed to create the leaders of tomorrow's society.
